Polarity Week 2: The Artist’s split between Sovreignty and Intimacy

In this module, we begin to explore the quiet architecture of the artist’s inner world, I have found observing myself and others, that often the space we create inside ourselves, is born in childhood, from exile and trauma.

And as we grow older, if this pain is not brough to awareness our creativity can become a fortress not a sanctuary.

Our inner sanctuary is where creativity speaks, where symbols come alive, where the invisible becomes visible. Where we find belonging and meaning.

But many of us carry a hidden belief that sounds something like:

“In order to protect this sacred space, I must stay separate. If I open to intimacy, I will lose myself.”

This belief is embedded in a movement our consciousness made in early childhood trauma. Many artists carry this wound, hidden behind their drive, coolness and rebellion. I know I have it.

This week, we lean into this separation wound — not to solve it, but to feel it differently. To find synergy and healing between our creativity, the world around us and, ultimately, our loved ones.

Reflection:

What happens when we allow our art to be both sovereign and relational?

Can our inner sanctuary remain intact — even as we open to love, collaboration, intimacy?

Where did I first learn to use my art and creativity to separate from the world around me to find safety and belonging?

Drawing practice:

This week I would love you to explore this theme in your journal, in your life and in your dreams. I am sure it will arise as you pay attention to it. You can draw your inner sanctuary, but please don’t make it as a fixed image, ask it to show itself to your as an unfolding process and keep witnessing it.

And as you follow the journal prompts below, keep evolving the drawing, let it show you the evolutionary way of inclusion. The meditation below will support the healing process as a process of inviting wholeness: more parts of you are included. I look forward to hear your reflections on how this is moving in you.

Journal prompts:

• When and how did I first learn that solitude = safety?

• What fears do I need to own to stay fully with myself and open to another?

• Can I imagine being fully rooted in my inner world — while letting another soul near? How would it look like?
